Fire and Ice in the New Year

You are a paper crafter, so maybe you'll understand this:  Does paper ever talk to you and tell you what it wants to be?  Sometimes it is a whisper sometimes it is a shout.

Even though it is November the Fire and Ice collection shouted Chinese New Year to me.  I always get together with friends to celebrate in our own low key Americanized way.  The Chinese New Year is on January 31, 2014 and it is the year of the Horse (Chinese Year 4711).  One tradition we follow is to give family and friends red and gold envelopes with money to bring luck to the receiver and giver.  With the Fire and Ice collection I made a mini Chinese temple to hold the red and gold envelopes.

All the papers and supplies used are from the Fire and Ice collection.  The basic mini-house is from "A Wee Village" pattern by Laura Denison at Follow the Paper Trail.  This little five inch tall house is made out of light weight chipboard.  I decorated the house using a corrugating tool for the roof paper, Martha Stewart Notched Square punch, and E K Success Modern Cube punch.

The envelopes were made with the We R Memory Keepers Envelope punch board (5-1/4 square measure to 2-3/8 mark).  One style uses gold Distress Paint with the Fire and Ice stencil and "Happiness" stamp.  One style uses a CS Equestrian horse stamp and CS Rhapsody number stamps.   I used foam square with a circular Fire and Ice cut apart for the envelope closure.  The envelopes are just the right size for gift cards, too.

Thank you for stopping by today!  Your next stop is with Janet at Dishing with Janet.  To return to the beginning of the hop go to Club Scrap Creates
